100% Natural Fiber and Organic Cotton Basics Made in California
Mainline is a California-based knitwear line made using 100% natural fiber fabrics and organic cotton, founded by a former denim industry executive. Since denim was her daily uniform, Mainline evolved from her continuous mission to find the perfect t-shirt to go with jeans. Mainline basics are made from Texas-grown organic cotton, North Carolina-knit fabric and finished in California where they are designed, cut and sewn. Mainline is committed to making a difference by designing beautiful knits that are as socially and environmentally conscious as possible.
Ethics + Sourcing Transparency
Made in the USA: Mainline basics are manufactured in the USA in order to ensure greater supply chain oversight. Rather than outsourcing production to countries with more relaxed labor and environmental laws, Mainline basics are designed, cut and sewn in San Francisco, California. We also believe in supporting job creation and preserving the American manufacturing sector by sourcing raw materials domestically.
Cotton Fiber: Mainline sources fabrics made using 100% organic cotton grown by the Texas Organic Growers Marketing Cooperative. No GMO's, no pesticides, no herbicides and certified organic by the USDA National Organic Program. Each bale can be traced back to the field and farmer that produced it, ensuring greater quality control.
Mills: Once ginned to remove the cottonseed, organic cotton fibers are then transported to North Carolina where they are spun and knit by family-owned mills into our signature lightweight jersey fabric. Knit fabrics are either left natural and undyed or laundered using Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified low-impact fiber reactive dyes.
Packaging: Once the fabric is spun, knit, laundered, cut and sewn, Mainline ships the final product to you inside undyed 100% organic cotton drawstring bags. These bags are reusable, plastic-free and made in the USA. We secure it with a pretty little bow, also made in the USA of undyed 100% organic cotton ribbon. Our retail partners receive our products inside Ingeo™ brand, 100% compostable bio-packaging made from starchy plants like corn. This packaging is also made in the USA from domestically grown plants.
Print Materials: Our consumer print materials are tree-free, chlorine-free, 100% biodegradable and made in the USA using 100% recycled cotton fibers from the garment industry. Each order comes with a blind debossed letterpress thank you note that provides care instructions and contact information. Our wholesale print materials are printed on American-made, Green-e Certified and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) Certified cardstock.
Shipping Materials: Orders are shipped using 100% recycled boxes made from 95% post-consumer waste and 5% post-industrial waste. Boxes are fully recyclable, biodegradable and labeled with kraft paper labels made from 100% post-consumer waste. Boxes are then sealed with 100% biodegradable and recyclable kraft tape. All shipping materials are made in the USA.
Logistics: Mainline uses the UPS Carbon Neutral program to offset CO2 emissions that are released during the shipping process. UPS uses a portion of Mainline's shipping proceeds to purchase carbon offsets which support projects that give back to the environment. These sustainability projects include: landfill gas destruction, methane destruction, reforestation efforts and wastewater-to-energy plants.
Traditional Retail: According to the US Department of Labor, retail sales jobs employ the most Americans accounting for roughly 4,447,000 people, cashiers account for 3,338,900 people, stock clerks account for 1,807,200 people and sales reps, wholesale and manufacturing jobs account for 1,480,700 more. Though eliminating brick-and-mortar retail is becoming more common, it has the devastating potential to eliminate upwards of 11 million US jobs.
